Meet Dr. Kiss

Phil Kiss, DDS

Dr. Kiss, a dentist for over 25 years, prides himself on seeing to the meticulous details needed to get things “done right”.  Patient comfort is the highest priority.  “If the patient isn’t comfortable, I’m not comfortable”.

Dr. Kiss grew up in a military family.  His father was a pilot in the Air Force and consequently he grew up living in different states of the US – Indiana, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.  When his father retired from the Air Force in 1964 he found himself in north Alabama, the city of Huntsville.  He spent his junior high and high school years there.   In 1969 he left to accept an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis MD.  He graduated in 1973 with a BS degree, immediately entered the navy as an ensign and spent the next five years assigned to two different navy destroyers, one stationed in Norfolk VA and the other in Charleston S.C.

After several years of “driving ships” he became interested in dentistry and when discharged from the navy in 1978 he returned to school and attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry.  He graduated in 1984.  Upon graduation his “wanderlust for travel” returned and he applied for and entered the US Air Force as a dentist.  His first assignment was in Spokane WA at Fairchild AFB, where he fell in love with the state of Washington.  He remained in the Air Force for 16 years and was thrilled to be stationed in England and South Korea as well as Biloxi, MS.  During his time in the Air Force he returned to school for a two year accredited course in advanced general dentistry with emphasis in oral surgery, root canal therapy, implants and crown and bridges.  After 21 yrs in the military he retired in 2000.

He came to settle in Gig Harbor.  After seeing much of the US, this area is the “best of them all”.  In his free time he likes to spend time with his wife, Sandy, maintaining their yard and doing small projects around the house.  He plays golf frequently (and sometimes enjoys it).  He and his wife have two funny dogs, pugs, Frank and Lucy.
